Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
